Two pit bulls flee through hole in the fence and kill elderly woman with dementia

An 85-year-old woman was attacked by two pit-bull dogs this Friday (2/4), in a neighborhood in Birmingham, England. The animals allegedly escaped through a hole in the fence of the residence where they lived, invaded the neighboring land and bit the victim, who died on the spot.

According to the Daily Mail, Lucille Downer suffered from dementia and, during the attack, was hit several times in the throat area. Neighbors heard the old woman’s cry, but were unable to help.

After the arrival of the rescue team and the police, tranquilizers were applied to the animals. By that time, Lucille was already dead.

The publication also says that a 43-year-old man, suspected of owning the animals, was arrested and taken for questioning. So far, investigations show that the animals fled after they managed to make a hole in the protection grid that had recently been replaced by the owner.

Neighbors heard by the report point out that the situation was surprising, since the behavior of dogs has always been peaceful.

In a note, the West Midlands Police regretted what had happened, sent their “feelings to the family and friends” of the elderly woman and said that the victim’s body would undergo an autopsy so that the cause of death could be confirmed.
