Florida Governor Ron DeSantis banned the use of “vaccine passports” in this American state on Friday (2), while the European Union moves forward in discussions to create this digital health certificate, almost a month after China. launch yours.

The Republican Governor’s executive order prohibits government offices from issuing any document comparable to so-called “vaccine passports” for the purpose of certifying that an individual has been immunized against covid-19.

It also prohibits private companies in Florida from requiring their customers to provide any type of document certifying their vaccination or immunity after they have recovered from the coronavirus.

DeSantis’ order explains that “so-called vaccine passports reduce individual freedom and impair patient privacy.”

The governor, a fervent supporter of former President Donald Trump, who was tipped to be a possible candidate for the presidency, announced on Monday that his state would not force the use of these documents.

“It is totally unacceptable for the government or the private sector to impose the requirement of proof of the vaccine to simply be able to participate in society in a normal way,” DeSantis told a news conference at the time.

“If you want to go to the theater, do you have to show it?” He added. “No. We don’t support that.”

His announcement came after the Washington Post reported, based on several anonymous sources, that Democratic President Joe Biden’s government is working on the development of a standardized document – a vaccine passport – that allows normal life to resume.

These types of documents are being discussed globally to show that a person has been immunized against covid-19 and, among other things, to facilitate international travel and revive tourism.

China launched a digital “health passport” for this purpose on 9 March, while the European Commission proposed a week later to create a “Digital Green Certificate” to facilitate free movement within the European Union.

Nearly six million people have already received at least one dose of the vaccine in Florida, a state of 21 million and economically dependent on tourism.

As of Monday, all residents who wish to receive it without a prescription: from 16 years old to Pfizer and from 18 years old to Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
