At least four people died in a shootout in an office building in Orange, Southern California, in the United States, including a child, before the suspect was shot.
According to the Associated Press (AP) news agency, the motives for the attack are not known for now, and it is not clear who targeted the suspect.
According to the AP, shots were fired when police officers arrived at a two-story office building in Orange, south-east of Los Angeles, around 17.30 on Wednesday (00.30 on Thursday in mainland Portugal), said Police Lieutenant Jennifer Amat.
“There was a shootout involving agents,” and the suspect was taken to a hospital, he added. He has a gunshot wound and is in critical condition, said Jennifer Amat, without giving further information about the suspect or the victims.
In addition to the four dead, the shooting caused at least one wounded, a woman who is in critical condition.
According to the police, the shooting took place on the second floor of the building, where an insurance office, a financial advisory firm, a legal services company and a telephone repair shop operate.
California Governor Gavin Newsom called the deaths “horrifying and heartbreaking”.
“Our hearts are with families affected by tonight’s terrible tragedy,” he wrote on the social network Twitter.
These are the latest victims of shootings in the United States in the past two weeks.
Ten people died in a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, in the western United States, on March 22.
In the previous week, eight people were shot dead in the Atlanta area, including six Asians.
The city of Orange, 50 kilometers from Los Angeles, has a population of 140,000 people.
