In the Netherlands, doctors who prescribe chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin against covid-19 will receive a fine of up to 150,000 euros, imposed by the Inspectorate of Health and Youth Care (IGJ).
In addition, the measure may include other drugs prescribed outside state guidelines.
IGJ also called on pharmacists to denounce cases of prescription of these drugs.
The Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate regularly receives reports that doctors in the country are prescribing drugs that are contrary to treatment recommendations for covid-19, measures imposed by the government, according to the IGJ.
When questioned, the IGJ spokeswoman was unable to clarify how many doctors are involved and which specialties.
“We have talked to several doctors about this, but as some of them continue to do so, now we are going to impose fines. We won’t let you know any more, ”said the spokeswoman.
There is still no real minimum value. The exact amount of the fine will depend on the circumstances.
Fines can run up to thousands of euros, she said. Internally, it is thought that the maximum amount of the fine should reach 150 thousand euros.
Pharmacists can also be held responsible if they provide these drugs for the treatment of covid-19. IGJ has called on them to denounce if they receive prescriptions and suspect that it is for treatment against Chinese plague.
