It all happened around 9:30 pm (8:30 pm in Lisbon) on Thursday, the eve of the Good Friday holiday, when the Dominican gangs Don’t Play and Trinitarios clashed and several shots were fired in the public thoroughfare, more specifically on the corner between Rua Hermanos Gómez and Rua Collados, in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, according to ABC reports. It looked more like a “scene from a movie from the Wild West”, describes the newspaper.
The inhabitants of that area of the capital got a “scare”, as described by Angela, who works in a company near the place where the shots were fired. “I have been here in this neighborhood for three years and nothing like this has ever happened,” he testified to El País.
The video was also released on the social network of the National Police’s Jupol union, which points to a likely “settlement of accounts” between the two gangs. Are “very worrying images”, described this police union. “Gangs are a problem” that must be attacked with maximum force, he added in the message posted on Twitter.
About a dozen young people were involved in this confrontation between two rival groups in the Madrid neighborhood. First they resorted to physical violence, sticks and large knives until the moment when one of them drew a gun.
The young man is said to have shot six to seven times in the direction of elements of the rival gang, who fled the streets of the neighborhood, according to the images in the video, broadcast by social networks.
According to the ABC newspaper, which cites a police source, the young man who sees himself in the images of a gun in his hand is a member of the Dominican Don’t Play gang and has recently been released from prison.
After the shots, the sniper approached a car, opened the driver’s door and left the gun inside, then fled on foot. The authorities are investigating this episode of violence on the streets of Madrid.
