The video of two Ecuadorian children being thrown from the 4.25 meter high wall that separates the US border with Mexico was released on Wednesday (31) by US authorities. Despite the risk, the three- and five-year-old girls left unscathed. The information is from the Associated Press (AP) news agency.
In the images released, it is possible to see two people throwing the children over the wall and, after taking action, they abandon them and go away. US Border Patrol officers see the incident as terrible.
When they saw what happened, the agents went to the scene, rescued the children, who were in shock, and took them to have tests in a hospital. Upon confirming that they had not suffered injuries from the fall, the agents referred the girls to a temporary detention facility. According to the AP, they are now awaiting a response from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Chief patrol agent Gloria I. Chavez of the El Paso sector, located between the states of Texas and New Mexico, said the adult seen in the video was spotted sitting behind the barrier by an agent using a camera with long-range lens. The person, according to the publication, hid the children before throwing them over the barrier.
In a statement, the chief agent said, “We are currently working with our law enforcement partners in Mexico and trying to identify these relentless human smugglers to hold them to the fullest extent of the law.”
Also according to the AP, hundreds of minors are in need of shelter after entering the United States illegally. The issue will be addressed by the government of President Joe Biden.
