Two muscular models with similar engines go to great lengths to get to know the best
The test aims to determine which of the two models with very similar engines has the best performance: whether the Volkswagen Golf R or the Honda Civic Type R.
The «Carwow», With Mat Watson at the wheel of the Golf R, took the two models to the track and confronted them in a drag race, a launched race and a braking event.
The Volkswagen Golf R has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 320 hp of power with a torque of 420 Nm, is equipped with Launch Control and presents a weight of 1,551 kg.
The Honda Civic Type R has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder block, which delivers 320 hp and a torque of 400 Nm, but does not have a Launch Control and weighs 1,380 kg.
So it remains to be seen whether the weight difference is enough for the Civic Type R to beat the Golf R.
As it was seen, the Volkswagen Golf R was the fastest in the ¼ mile drag race, in two attempts and the Honda Civic Type R only won the victory in a third attempt and with a slight advance at the start to compensate for the lack of the Launch system Control of Japanese sports.
In the second race, launched at 80 km / h, the balance was greater but the Golf R turned out to be the fastest, beating the Type R.
In the braking test at about 110 km / h, the car to stop first is the Honda Civic Type R, which in this way beat the Volkswagen Golf R.
