Images of an alleged protest by military police in Bahia against the state governor, Rui Costa, after the death of Corporal Wesley Soares Goés have been circulating on social networks since March 29, with more than 7 thousand shares. The video, however, is from a march organized by Corinthians fans, Gaviões da Fiel, which took place in 2015 in São Paulo.
“In Bahia, the PM marches towards the Government Palace … asking for the head of the PT governor”says one of the publications on Facebook (1, 2, 3), Twitter (1, 2) and Instagram.
The video was also found on the video sharing social network Tik Tok, with over 11 thousand likes.

The publications claim that the images are of a protest on March 29 against the governor of Bahia, Rui Costa (PT), for the death, the previous day, of Corporal Wesley Soares Goés in a police action in Salvador after having shot in the air and in the direction of security agents.
However, a reverse frame search on Google shows that the original video, published on the verified YouTube channel “Hospício 1910” on September 7, 2015 and titled “MAR NEGRO GAVIÕES DA FAEL tram on the way to the Classic against the pig”, is from a march by the organized Corinthians fans Gaviões da Fiel.
On September 6 of that year, Corinthians and Palmeiras faced off in the city of São Paulo for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship, drawing 3 to 3. The term “Porcada”, used in the title of the video, refers to the fans of Palmeiras, who have a pig as a mascot.
Pelo Twitter, a Gavião da Fiel spoke up: “The video published in the publications is about Gavião walking in the classic Corinthians x pork, on February 8, 2015. Don’t share fake news!”.
On March 29, a protest was actually held for the death of Corporal Wesley Soares at Farol da Barra, in Salvador.
On March 19, President Jair Bolsonaro triggered the Supreme Federal Court to overturn the decree signed by Governor Rui Costa on restrictive measures to try to contain the advance of cases and deaths by covid-19 in the state. Days later, the presidential demand was denied by the high court.
AFP Checamos has already verified another allegation involving the death of this military police officer in Bahia.
