A fire broke out at the Souza Aguiar municipal hospital, in downtown Rio, on Monday afternoon. According to the Fire Department, which was triggered at 6 pm, the incident occurred on the third floor of the health unit.

According to the firefighters, at 6:10 pm, just ten minutes after the first call, the fire had already been fully controlled by men from the Central Headquarters, which is next to the hospital. No victims needed to be seen, even as reported by the corporation.

On Twitter, the Municipal Secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz, informed that he was at Souza Aguiar. “It’s okay here, no injuries,” said Soranz on the social network. According to him, “a wall-mounted air conditioner went short and generated a lot of smoke”.

One of the wards on the third floor is dedicated to patients with Covid-19, who had to be moved to other points within the hospital because of the excess smoke. The Municipal Health Secretariat reported that it is still counting the total number of patients who had to be relocated. According to the folder, none of them had their health status affected by the incident.
