after amputating arm, motocross champion dies in new accident

Alberto “El Wey” Zapata, an Argentine motocross rider, 23 years old, died during a competition in San Agustín, a city in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. He got off his bike and was hit by two competitors.

In November 2020, Zapata had to amputate his left arm after a car accident and returned to racing months later. In this new accident, he did not resist. Watch the video of the moment when he falls and the opponents pass over him:

The governor of the province of San Juan, lamented the loss of the pilot: “I am totally heartbroken by the sad news of the death of Wey Zapata. My condolences to your family and friends at this sad time. Rest in peace, warrior. In San Juan, we will remember you as a great sportsman and a great fighter. ”

“El Wey” impressed on his return after the amputation and managed to get on a podium and recently talked about how he received the news that he had lost an arm. “When I was in the hospital, I couldn’t feel my arm and I wondered if I still had it, until my mother said to me, ‘No, they amputated it right after the accident.'” At the time, Zapata was saved by a person passing by the accident site and stopped the bleeding in the arm with a tourniquet.
