The Miss Sri Lanka contest ended in confusion last Sunday (04). Pushpika De Silva, who was announced as the winner of the 2021 edition, had her crown torn off by competitor Caroline Julie. The shack was so big that one of them ended up hospitalized at the end of the ceremony.
In a video that circulates on the internet, Caroline takes the stage and takes the microphone from the presenter. At this point Pushpika had already been crowned and started the official photo shoot as Miss from Sri Lanka. Caroline then revealed that the contest should be invalidated, as Puhspika was divorced – which is against the regulation.
“There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place,” said Caroline, visibly irritated.
In the following moments, Caroline goes towards Pushpika, takes the crown off her head and places the accessory in the second place. The scenes left the audience following the event in shock.
According to the local press, due to Caroline’s aggression to remove the crown, Pushpika needed to be hospitalized. She was treated at the hospital in Sri Jaiavardenapura-Cota, the country’s capital.
In addition, people on her team said that Miss was seriously depressed. As soon as she felt prepared, Puhspika, in an interview with News 1st, declared that she is not divorced, she just does not live in the same house as her husband.
“Living in separate houses and being divorced are completely different things. I have already taken legal action against the injustice and humiliation caused at the event,” Pushpika told the newspaper.
