Duet: Instagram copies new TikTok functionality to combat the app – Apps
It was less than a year ago that Instagram added Reels to its platform. This feature allows you to create and edit short videos (up to 60 seconds) that are then included in an infinite feed, much like what happens in TikTok. However, compared to this social network, the Reels still lack some creative features that Instagram seems to be looking to fill.

To give Reels more strength, Instagram copied Duet, one of the most popular features of TikTok. This is the feature that allows you to duet with other videos, sharing your own clips next to them.

It is now also possible to do it with Reels, through a feature called Remix. To do a duet with a video, just click on the menu that appears in the lower right corner of the screen when viewing the Reel. It is possible to record a new video from scratch, as well as upload an existing one to your phone’s gallery.

The editing tools allow you to adjust the final result with visual effects, music and speed options.

Whenever one of your videos is used on someone else’s Remix, you’ll receive a notification in the activity feed, just like when you receive a like or comment.

The duets gained traction in TikTok because they allow interaction between creators. Functionality was the catalyst for several trends that include dance challenges, reactions and humorous montages. At this point, Instagram’s strategy seems to be quite similar to the one it adopted to combat Snapchat: copy and paste.
