Since the launch of ClubHouse, content creators and fans have drawn Spotify’s attention to the possibility of having live formats. “We are excited that the world is already looking for us for music, podcasts and other exclusive audio experiences, and this new live audio experience is a powerful addition that will enhance and extend the experience on-demand that we offer today, ”explained Gustav Söderström, Head of Research and Development at Spotify.
“This acquisition complements our work to create future audio formats and will accelerate Spotify’s entry into the live audio space,” he continued.
The company says that in the coming months, the service will evolve and expand the Locker Room into a live audio experience aimed at creators and fans, offering a variety of content, including sports, music and culture, as well as a series of interactive features across real time.
Spotify is not the only one trying to compete with the Clubhouse. Twitter is almost ready to launch its new tool, Spaces, which allows users to chat using voice, within the platform. Instagram, on the other hand, launched the ability to add more people to a live video. Facebook has also been reported to work for a Clubhouse competitor called Live Audio.
Being an exclusive app for iOS, with this new acquisition, Spotify has the idea of bringing the Locker Room to all devices, the most obvious being its entry into the Android world.
Another objective of the Locker Room is to open its use not only to art makers but also to extend to everyone who wants to create channels of conversation on any type of subject or theme, trying first of all to focus on culture, sport and music .
