Galaxy Watch 4: Samsung can switch from Tizen to Wear OS on upcoming smartwatches

Tizen already figures as the second best operating system for smartphones at this moment, however, everything indicates that Samsung is about to abandon it in your next generation of smart watches.

According to recent information published on the site SamMobile, since 2018 rumors corroborate this possible exchange, when the brand decided to change the nomenclature “Gear” to “Galaxy” in its line of watches.

Now, it looks like the next big change, starting with the Galaxy Watch 4, has to do with the operating system, something that is also likely to spread to other Sammy wearable models.

Through an analysis of the APK of the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app, Max Weinbach of Android Police revealed the codenames for Galaxy Watch 4 (Fresh) and Galaxy Watch Active 4 (Wise), which will arrive with 40 / 41mm and 44/45 mm respectively.

In addition, the APK also found a plugin codenamed “water”, which would supposedly be the Samsung compatibility layer for Wear OS (referred to in the codes as ‘newos’).

The brand’s next watches should be made official in the second quarter of 2021, and although we are not sure about the future of Tizen, there is already suspicion of an action that could further deepen the partnership between Google and Samsung.

At the end of the day, who would benefit from it would be us, users, after all, Tizen still has a long way to catch up with Wear OS in terms of supporting third-party services and apps (although the Samsung platform is, more polished).
