LG announces closure of smartphone factories worldwide

After much speculation, LG has finally confirmed that it will exit the smartphone market by June this year. In a note, LG said it should focus efforts on other markets, such as components for electric vehicles, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and solutions for companies.

The phones that have already been launched will continue to be sold until stocks are exhausted and, all who have branded handsets, continue to have support for the devices. However, the assistance period should vary according to each region.

Rumors about the end of LG’s smartphone division have been around since the beginning of 2021, and before that the company would have tried to sell the business, but was unsuccessful.

The company has a factory in Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo, but has yet to say what it will be destined for or what will happen to workers in the area.
