Trial version is now available for participants of the Windows Insider Program with build 190 …
In addition to corrections and adjustments, this update will have few new features for home users. In the case of Windows Hello, the Windows 10 biometric authentication platform with support for facial recognition and fingerprint recognition, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 21H1 will now support multiple cameras on the same device. As a result, the operating system will now set the external camera as the default for authentication via facial recognition when an external and an internal camera are present.

The other new features introduced by Windows 10 21H1 specifically target the use of the operating system in corporate environments. The update will introduce some improvements to the Microsoft Defender Application Guard with a focus on performance. Before, the time required to open an Office document protected with Application Guard could reach more than a minute in certain scenarios, but with the new version of Windows 10 this should no longer happen. The time required to open documents must be drastically reduced.
For those who don’t know, Application Guard uses the Hyper-V virtualization platform to isolate instances of Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Office in virtualized environments so that potentially malicious websites and documents do not affect PCs used in corporate environments. In the case of Microsoft Edge, administrators can define lists of sites considered to be trusted and if the user tries to access a site that is not on the list, it will open in an isolated browser instance in a virtualized environment. In the case of Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents considered as unreliable are opened in isolated instances also in virtualized environments completely separate from the operating system. Administrators can check out more information about Microsoft Defender Application Guard by accessing the available Microsoft technical documentation here.
Windows 10 21H1 will also introduce improvements to the Windows Policy Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) to better support remote working scenarios. Before 21H1, changes in user groups or computers implemented by the administrator took a while to propagate. With the new version of Windows 10, the process should now be a little faster.

For Windows 10 20H2 and Windows 10 v2004 users, Windows 10 21H1 will arrive as a cumulative update. With that, the installation process of the new version will be much faster on these systems. For users of versions of Windows 10 prior to v2004, the installation process should take a little longer as Windows 10 21H1 will basically be installed as a full version of the operating system.
Microsoft has not yet confirmed exactly when Windows 10 21H1 will be released, but it is known that it will be available until June this year. The company had also previously said that all editions of Windows 10 21H1 (Home, Pro and etc.) will receive 18 months of support after launch.
For those who were waiting for big news, Windows 10 21H1 can be a little disappointing. In the case of the update that will be released in the second half, known by the code name “Sun Valley”, it should introduce new features such as new icons in the File Explorer, improvements to the virtual keyboard of the operating system and more.
