Super Mario Bros. The original was released in 1985, and the version sold is one of the first published, from 1986. The game was never opened and is still wrapped in plastic, a format that did not exist in the 1987 versions. According to the seller, who preferred to remain anonymous, the game was bought as a Christmas present and forgotten in an office drawer for 35 years. The seller pocketed $ 550,000 (about R $ 3.125 million) of the total amount, while the other party went to the auction house Heritage Auctions.
The evaluation company WATA Games gave a score of 9.6 A + for the almost perfect copy, which, according to Heritage Auctions, is the best and oldest they have ever had of Super Mario Bros. The edition sold is the fourth published version of the game (which, in other words, had 11 different versions). A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. had previously been auctioned for US $ 114 thousand (almost R $ 650 thousand), and another, of Super Mario Bros. 3, reached US $ 156 thousand (around R $ 886 thousand).
