DJI Air 2S should bring a camera with a 1-inch, 20MP sensor and also ADS-B

A new leak from the famous leaker , which always brings news before DJI products reach the market, shows the new drone DJI Air 2S in a quick video, confirming some information. First is that the drone will even be called DJI Air 2S, another one that removes the “Mavic” from the name, following the Mini 2. But the most important were the specifications that the video shows, as a 20MP camera e 1 inch sensor, information already leaked previously and which I speculated in the article I wrote with details of the drone a few days ago. For now the only model with a camera with a 1-inch sensor in this line of more portable drones, read Mavics, is the Mavic 2 Pro and its Hasselblad camera.

At least when we talk about the Mini and Air “lines”, DJI has followed the strategy of one model per year, this happened with the Mavic Mini launched at the end of 2019, and with the Mini 2 launched at the end of last year, and now will do the same thing with the Mavic Air 2 launched in April 2020, and which has a new version hitting the market, according to leaks, in April or May. The curious thing was that the company adopted the name DJI Air 2S and not DJI Air 3. This suggests a version without many modifications, a kind of update, but the leaks indicate at least three very interesting news.

The information is not official, but the leaker OsitaLV is famous for getting just about everything right when it comes to DJI

I start with the camera, which would bring the SONY IMX686 sensor, used in some high-performance smartphones launched in 2019 and 2020, but the biggest news is not specifically the sensor model, but because it is 1 inch, which in practice allows greater capture of light and delivery in higher quality specifically with low luminosity. Here it is important to emphasize that there are several considerations for a camera to deliver higher final quality, there is no point in having high resolution, if the sensor is small and the software does not make good use of the hardware, but the fact is that this is not a problem for DJI on the contrary, the company has always stood out in this regard, especially after the purchase of Hasselblad. I would like to see a more versatile camera that allows variation in the aperture control, just like the Mavic 2 Pro, combined with the smaller size of the Air line, could make the DJI Air 2S even more interesting than the Mavic Air 2 is. , one of the best drones ever developed by DJI in my opinion. The supposed resolution of 64MP, higher than the 48MP of the Mavic Air 2, also falls to the ground. Another curiosity here is that the Mavic 2 Pro, in addition to a 1-inch sensor, also has a 20MP resolution like this supposed camera of the DJI Air 2S.

Like other interesting news of this leak, the DJI Air 2S would bring an ADS-B sensor, which allows the detection of airplanes, helicopters and other aircraft that also bring this sensor. DJI announced that every drone over 250 grams launched as of January 1, 2020 would have this sensor, despite the fact that the Mavic Air 2 was marketed without it in some countries. The recent DJI FPV Drone is another model that brings the sensor, which greatly increases safety depending on the flight scenario, however it is that not every country has received this functionality through the DJI Fly application, Brazil is among the countries that despite having the hardware in the drone, does not have the technology activated in the software, being possible to just “enjoy” when flying with the drone in a country where the technology is officially available.

Another possible novelty will be support for DJI FPV Goggle V2 glasses. This information was leaked after some software codes of the company indicate that the DJI Air 2S would support the glasses, which would be something very interesting, although this drone profile does not offer the same type of flight, it is something very cool and that can help popularize not only the FPV concept, but the glasses itself. I also remember that the DJI FPV Drone uses the OcuSync 3.0 connection, another technology that may appear with the DJI Air 2S, but that may end up “breaking” the support with other products, such as the Smart Controller, based on OcuSync 2.0.

Unlike the Mavic 2 Pro, DJI Air 2S drone does not have Hasselblad brand printed on the camera

Finally, in the images we can also see new obstacle sensors on the top front, indicating this new feature, since the Mavic Air 2 has sensors on the front, bottom and back. These sensors help to avoid collisions, as well as when associated with ActiveTrack technology, which makes the drone follow something “marked” by avoiding obstacles along the way.

In the coming days we will have a series of news about this new drone, which has already had leaks confirming the 3500mAh battery, same as the Mavic Air 2, but which nonetheless may indicate greater flight autonomy like the Mini 2, which would battery you smaller capacity when compared to the Mavic Mini, but it can fly a little longer with a single battery.
