The developer of Outriders, People Can Fly, is studying ways to deliver continued support and additional content to the game to avoid as much internal monetization in the form of microtransactions or updates as a service.

The website GamesRadar talked to the game director, Bartsz Kmita and chief designer Piotr Nowakowski in 2020, and at the time both had already mentioned that the reception of the game by the community would be a determining factor for the production or not of additional content, but the guarantee that the game would be released as closed content without the proposal of functioning as a service remains, and it is increasingly the focus of debate about the future of the game.

The launch of Outriders attracted so many audiences on all platforms that the servers spent the weekend of April 3 and 4 extremely unstable, and this demand will surely be transformed into indicators when People Can Fly decides to present Square Enix with future plans. for the new shooting franchise, but Kmita says he has no intention of turning Outriders into a service platform. According to him, People Can Fly “spent a lot of time creating the game’s deep narrative, so it would be wonderful to be able to continue developing this adventure. But it clearly depends on the players. If they like the game, if they enjoy the game, they will want to stay in it. That doesn’t mean that we’re going to feed the game with a monetization format as a service. [também] does not mean that we will abandon [Outriders] as soon as it is released. There are several ways in which we could continue to support the game, give players new activities to do, without the need for monetization of game as a service. ”

Kmita also ended by comparing a possible future for Outriders with Diablo, which was also not a game as a service, but received constant updates with major expansions eventually. “They [Blizzard North] they were doing it in a different way. Maybe we do it that way, or maybe we think of yet another way. But for sure, we will not abandon the game if the community likes it. ”
