In mid-January, we reported that the LG had suspended production of LCDs for iPhones and, at the same time, we covered a rumor about a potential definitive exit from it from the smartphone market.

Behold, the rumor materialized this last dawn: LG made official that it is leaving this segment, after accumulating losses of more than US $ 4 billion in the last five years.

The South Korean has said it will focus its efforts on other areas, such as components for electric vehicles, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and solutions business-to-business, as well as platforms and services – and will also be dedicated to future 6G wireless technologies.

The entire process is expected to be completed by July 31, although LG still expects to have smartphone inventory available after that date. She also stated that she will maintain technical support and software updates for certain models, with varying terms depending on the region.

LG’s exit from this market is certainly a pity. Although she never achieved the prestige that Apple, Samsung and Motorola, as well as the Chinese Xiaomi and Huawei, achieved, she was certainly an important player and gave her contribution to a very fierce and competitive segment.
