The automotive market’s race towards electrification will not slow down anytime soon! But not all is bad, since the goal of all manufacturers is not yet to fully invest in 100% electric vehicles. After all, Mercedes has now come to present its new high-performance PHEV hybrid technology with an important and very interesting detail.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG performance division has developed two electrified engines, and apparently, one maintains the brand’s famous 4.0L V8!
Therefore, the future Mercedes AMG GT73e 4Matic will thus bring the best of both worlds to its enthusiasts. This is because it managed to maintain the renowned V8 engine while supporting it with many new technologies.
More powerful variant promises more than 804hp!
This model will undoubtedly manage to rival the brand’s biggest rivals and is even capable of 100% electric driving. Still, we also have a second engine that equips the manufacturer’s 2.0L turbo engine.
Having said all that, the most powerful engine is called the M177, the second is M139 and both equip the brand 9-speed MCT-Speedshift automatic gearbox and torque converter.
Therefore, the V8 4.0L engine was able to be included due to the greater efficiency offered in conjunction with the electric motor on the rear axle. This way, at low revs, the average CO2 emissions are much lower, which makes everything possible.
O electric motor is able to provide 94 hp of continuous power and even 201 hp peak power together with 300nm de torque. A curious fact is that this engine drives the rear axle but is able to send power for short periods of time to the front axle if necessary.
Let’s get to the numbers!
In the most powerful variant that equips the electrified V8 engine the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT73e 4Matic is capable of exceed 804 hp e 1000 nm de torque. Something that will drive the entire model of 0-100km/h in numbers around 3.0 seconds.
The second variant equips an improved version of 2.0L motor able to 443 cv e 600nm touch. However, when accompanied by the same electric motor it is able to reach the 503 cv of power and 700 nm de torque.
In short, at the moment the arrival of electrification in force also brings some good news. After all, it is thanks to this that the V8 will stay in Mercedes for a while longer.
