In an interview with “MMA Fighting” after the surgery, the fighter said that he already felt much better after the scare.
– I’m much better now. I went to the emergency room and had a good doctor named Maggie Wilson, and she sewed my finger back. It was hanging on the skin. They cut the glove, put it back on and now I have the plaster.
Pliev also said how it was the moment when he realized what happened to his finger.
– Right in the middle of the fight, when the guy hooked my glove, I felt my finger snap. I kept trying to pull him and I couldn’t stand, but then I realized it was because he was holding my glove, lowering his elbows. I looked at the judge and said, “Hey, what are you going to do? He’s holding my glove. ” He lifted us up and as soon as I stood up I realized that my finger was somehow injured. But I knew that if I looked at my finger, it would show some weakness on my part, for my opponent, for the judge and for everyone. I knew I had to keep fighting and that’s what I did.
– When I finished the round, I sat down and looked at my finger, it was gone. I couldn’t see my finger because it was in the glove. And I thought about all the work that I did and I had just lost a finger. I almost started to cry, not because of the pain or the finger, but I knew that the doctor would not let me keep fighting. I’ve been working hard, I want to get to the UFC. This is my dream. A lot of things have happened in my life and now a crazy thing like that happens.
Despite the fright and the terrible injury, Pliev said he has faith that everything happens for some reason and hopes to recover to return to fight soon.
– The bible says that everything that happens happens for a good reason. So praise be to God. About what is happening now, this business going viral, it is not in my hands, it is in the hands of God. I don’t know what’s going on. And if it benefits the CFFC, and I met President Robert Haydek and I thank him for putting me there, and all the good things that came out of it, I’m in, brother. Now, I have to do something with this hand, fix it and, God willing, I can keep fighting.
