Flamengo will still have a match before playing for the long-awaited Brazilian Super Cup. The decision against Palmeiras is on the 11th, but this Monday, the starting team of Rogério Ceni will have the second game of the season, whose opponent will be Madureira, for the 8th round of the Carioca Championship. And it is possible to say that the club will come to the national dispute with an advantage in relation to 2020.
The reason is the longer pre-season preparation time. For the Supercopa do Brasil 2020, Fla, then led by Jorge Jesus, had only 12 days to train and face Athletico-PR. The title came after a 3-0 win.
On the occasion, however, Flamengo played with the first team three times before fighting for the cup that provides the confrontation between the Brazilian champion and the Cup of Brazil of the previous year. This time, it will be two previous games.
Ceni’s technical committee considers the strategy the most appropriate for April, given that, at the end of the month, there will be a debut for Libertadores on the calendar. In other words, the priority was to intensify and prolong the training load in the pre-season, concluded after 22 training sessions – mostly, integral – at Ninho do Urubu.
– The pre-season was great, very high intensity – said Ceni, who highlighted the power of recovery of the ball in the game against Bangu, last Wednesday, when the team was impressed by the early physical imposition at the season premiere.
Flamengo will reach the final against Palmeiras after approximately 33 training sessions, in a period that will accumulate more rest between games and better physical preparation in relation to the Supercopa do Brasil 2020. The advantage in the physical aspect is significant aiming at that which could be the first title of the current season.
