João Pessoa, PB, 02 (AFI) – After announcing the departure of coach Marcelo Vilar, O Botafogo-PB has already defined the name of his new commander for the sequel to the 2021 season. He will be Gerson Gusmão (photo below), who accumulates his time at the Operário de Ponta Grossa, a Brazilian Serie B team.

The new coach of Botafogo does not carry much luggage from football (national and northeastern), having as the only job in the professional team the Operário. There he stayed for five seasons, accumulating the titles of the Brazilian Championship of Serie D of 2017 and later of the Brazilian Championship of Serie C of 2018.

Gerson Gusmão accepted Botafogo-PB’s proposal on Friday night

Gerson is from the city of Nova Hamburgo, where he even started his football career, having coached the Under-17 team and later hired as a technical assistant for the local club. Still in the south of the country, he went through Caxias, until he was hired by Operário, from Paraná.The new coach’s first mission is to recover Botafogo in the Northeast Cup. Currently the team is only the last placed in Group B with four points. He is the only one who has not yet won in the competition.

Then the coach will have to focus on Belo’s debut in the Paraibano Championship, in a sequence of games that will ‘measure’ the size of the work that should be done in the capital João Pessoa.

Botafogo will return to the field next Monday to face Confiança, at 7:30 pm, at Almeidão, in João Pessoa. The duel will have Real Time coverage of FIREPLACE.
