Briatore disagrees with Red Bull’s strategy at the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix

Flavio Briatore criticized Red Bull’s strategy during the Bahrain Grand Prix. The former team boss thinks Verstappen should have gone straight to his pit stop after Lewis Hamilton went to the undercut, which worked perfectly for the Brit.

The tactics of Mercedes and Red Bull were much discussed after Hamilton’s victory. Briatore agrees that Mercedes was better.

“The mistake was that they (Red Bull) didn’t call him (Verstappen) to the pits earlier,” he said.

Verstappen did not stop until several laps later, at the point where Hamilton was within 20 seconds, the approximate time required for a stop.

At the end of the race, Verstappen returned the position to Hamilton after overtaking the Briton on track four. According to Briatore, the decision was correct: “The request to return the position at the end? It was a wise decision by the team. ”

The Italian expects a good fight between Verstappen and Hamilton and focuses mainly on the Dutchman: “There must be a dominance of Mercedes, but Red Bull can certainly fight for the championship given the performance of Verstappen”, said the businessman.
