Former Sporting player, Diego Capel was one of the highlights of the Spanish league in 2007/08, the year he debuted for Sevilla. The good performances in Andalusia sparked the interest of Real Madrid.

In conversation with the Idols, YouTube channel, the 33-year-old winger revealed that he was close to heading to the Santiago Bernabéu in 2008, but one detail prevented the deal from being concluded.

«I had everything done with Real Madrid. They called me and said that as soon as Royston Drenthe’s departure was awake they were going to hire me. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, he did not leave and I ended up with this dream to be realized. But remember me well, I talked every day with Mijatovic, the sporting director, and he assured me that they were very interested in me. It was a detail that prevented me from going », he said.

Remember Diego Capel ended up staying in Seville until 2011, the year he joined Sporting. In Alvalade he made four seasons, followed by Genoa (Italy), Anderlecht (Belgium), Extremadura (Spain) and Birkirkara (Malta). Currently, he is without a club.
