«When there is a draw with strong teams it always ends up being like being in one group or another. We will play, in the same way, because each team has its specificity and we want to be competitive with all of them. Our goal is to get through the first phase, staying in the top four of the group, following that part, our goal will be the medals ”, he said in statements to the website of the Andeabol Federation of Portugal (FAP).
Paulo Pereira analyzed the specificities of the Portugal group: «Japan showed a very high quality in the World Cup, as well as Denmark, Sweden and Egypt (these three among the best eight, counting on the champion and vice-champion of the world). First we still have a qualification for the European Championship to finish and that is what we are focused on, at this moment, only after these two games (with Israel and Lithuania) will we turn our attention to the Olympic Games and hopefully we will be able to write history. »
The group stage will be played between July 24th and August 1st, advancing the top four to the quarterfinals, scheduled for August 3rd, followed by semi-finals and finals, on August 5th and 7th.
