After two years of relationship, the love ended.
– We each go to ours as friends, Magnus Carlsen tells VG.
The relationship first became public knowledge when Elisabet Lorentzen Djønne shared several romantic photos with the chess profile on her private Instagram account in the summer of 2019.
Later, she accompanied her boyfriend to several international chess tournaments, including when Carlsen became world champion in fast and lightning chess in Moscow in Christmas 2019.
Last spring, the couple moved together in an exclusive apartment on Tjuvholmen in Oslo, which Carlsen bought for NOK 21 million. The 127 square meter apartment has two balconies, sea views, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Magnus Carlsen is known for keeping a low profile about his private life, but in an earlier interview with The Guardian, he revealed a bit about what he is looking for when finding a partner.
– I imagine that a boyfriend must at least have some knowledge of chess. But I do not like it when I go out and meet girls who start talking to me about how they played chess against their grandfathers when they were children, I can not stand it. It’s boring. I would rather talk about anything else, Carlsen said.
Elisabet Lorentzen Djønne has previously been presented as a “Brown and gentle model” in See and Hear. She comes from Granvin in Hardanger.
Magnus Carlsen has four World Cup titles in classic chess, three World Cup titles in fast chess, five World Cup titles in lightning chess and has been world number one since July 2011.
Only 15 years old, Carlsen was for the first time ranked as one of the world’s 100 best chess players. On November 22, 2013, he became world champion in chess for the first time.
