Rentistas wins and places SPFC as seeded head in Liberta

The São Paulo supporter cheered together and suffered with the small Rentistas against Liverpool in the Uruguayan Championship. And it worked. The team won on penalties 3-2 after a 1-1 draw and went to the league final against Nacional. The result automatically helped São Paulo to be seeded in Libertadores.

In a very bad game, Rentistas saw his situation get complicated at the end of the first half with the expulsion of defender Guillermo Fratta after entering Fabricio Díaz with the help of VAR.

Even with one less player on the pitch, Rentistas managed to hold Liverpool for much of the second half, but Franco Romero to open the scoring in the 34th minute. Liverpool still had one more chance in the sequence, but the ball went out beside the goal.

But Rentistas was looking for a draw even with one less player. Franco Pérez kicked low and hard in the corner to tie. Liverpool had a golden chance to make the second in the 43rd minute, but Franco Romero kicked over the goal.

In overtime, Rentistas managed to hold back Liverpool’s attempts with a good start from goalkeeper Rossi. Then, on penalties, victory with three goalkeeper saves and a place in the Uruguayan league final.

As Rentistas qualified for the final, he took his place in the Libertadores and will be one of Uruguay’s representatives in the competition. With that, São Paulo goes to pot 1, since it has better ranking in the Conmebol ranking.

The draw for Conmebol to define the groups of the Libertadores is scheduled for April 9th.
