Justice overturns lockdown and releases games and open trade in Brasilia

The Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region granted an injunction in the late afternoon of this Wednesday (31), overturning a court decision yesterday (30) that prohibited the realization of matches in the Federal District. With that, several important games for the Mané Garrincha Stadium should be confirmed in the coming days, in addition to 30 matches of the NBB, Brazilian basketball championship, starting tomorrow (1st).

In football, the second game of the Recopa final between Palmeiras and Defensa Y Justicia (ARG) is scheduled for Mané Garrincha, and the decisive confrontation between Santos and San Lorenzo (ARG), for the third preliminary round of Libertadores, on the 14th and April 13, respectively.

In national competitions there are several games. Starting with Flamengo x Palmeiras, on the 11th, for the Super Cup, a tournament that brings together the champion of the Brasileirão and the champion of the Copa do Brasil. Taking advantage of the presence of both Flamengo and Palmeiras in Brasilia, there was also marked the classic between Flamengo and Vasco for the Carioca Championship, on the 15th.

The decision of federal judge Angela Catão, accepting an interlocutory appeal from the Federal District government, however, goes far beyond football. The injunction granted yesterday determined that the Federal District should resume the restrictive measures that were being applied before the reopening of trade, authorized on Monday (29) by Governor Ibeneis Rocha (MDB).

Yesterday, Judge Kátia Balbino had decided on the new partial closure alleging that the same is necessary due to the “collapse of the public and private system” of health in the DF. The measure would take effect tomorrow and should prevail until the occupancy of beds in intensive care units (ICUs) available in the public network is between 80% and 85%. In addition, the ICU bed waiting list for patients with covid-19 should be under 100 people.

It was this decision that fell today in TRF1, after the DF government alleges that government actions fall to the Executive Branch. “I understand that, in this summary cognition exam, there is a potential risk of injury to the legal order,” wrote judge Angela Catão.

In football, it is scheduled for tomorrow (1st), at the Boca do Jacaré Stadium, in Taguatinga, the classic between Botafogo-PB and Treze, for the Copa do Nordeste. For basketball, the most immediate effect of the injunction is the authorization to hold 30 NBB games in two weeks at the ACEB gym. With matches banned in São Paulo, where the championship had been playing most of the rounds, all teams will meet in Brasilia to play up to three games a day in the same gym. Most of the teams are already in the DF.
