North Macedonia secured this Wednesday one of the most surprising results of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, beating Germany 2-1.
The selection led by Ristovski, a former Sporting side, spoiled the night for Joachim Low, who made his last appearance in the World Cup qualifiers as Germany coach. After the European Championship, he will step down.
In Group J’s game, Goran Pandev (45m) opened the scoring for the Macedonians, Gundogan also annulled the disadvantage in converting a penalty (63m) but Eljif Elmas fixed the final result in the 85th minute.
In the other meetings, the highlight was Armenia, which added the third victory, this time against Romania (3-2), and leads the group. Iceland secured the triumph in Liechtenstein (1-4).
Armenia leads with nine points, North Macedonia takes second place with six, the same as Germany, sent to third position.
