Palmeiras de Abel Ferreira will duel against Defensa y Justicia starting next Wednesday, at 21:30 (Brasilia), in Argentina, earning the title of the Recopa Sul-Americana. Even though he is still modest in his achievements, the current winner of the Copa Sudamericana has in his reserve bank a coach who has been in the sights of Verdão: Sebastián Beccacece.
The 40-year-old Argentine has a profile that appealed to palmeirenses at the time when the club alviverde went to the market to seek the replacement of Vanderlei Luxemburgo, in October last year.

At the time, Beccacece ran Racing and was consulted by Verdão, as well as Ariel Holan and Gabriel Heinze. The president of the Argentine club gave an interview admitting the demand, but said that the coach refused to leave the club at that time.
At Palmeiras, the speech is that there was never an official search for any of these names. Abel Ferreira, who was already accompanied by the leaders of Verdão, signed a valid contract until the end of 2022 and soon made history in the club with the titles of Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
Defensa y Justicia won the Copa Sudamericana last season under the command of former striker Hernan Crespo, who is now São Paulo’s commander.

In 2020, the Argentine team went to the tournament after finishing the group stage of Libertadores in the third place of their bracket (Santos and Delfín advanced to the second round). In the South American Championship, he passed through Sportivo Luqueño (Paraguay), Vasco, Bahia, Coquimbo Unido (Chile) and, in the decision, beat Lanús by 3 to 0.
With ten goals in the campaign, striker Braian Romero was the top scorer in the international competition.

Last Saturday, Defensa y Justicia lost to Boca Juniors, at Bombonera, in a game valid for the eighth round of the Argentine Championship. The team is in the sixth position of Group B, with 11 points.
Striker Walter Bou, who has played for Boca Juniors and Vitória, is the current vice-scorer of the tournament, with five goals scored.
Even without titles in the local first division, Defensa y Justicia has often participated in competitions organized by Conmebol in recent years. In 2017, at the time also directed by Beccacece, the club eliminated São Paulo from the Copa Sudamericana with a draw at Morumbi.
