It is not news that some wrestlers MMA complain about their relationship with Dana White. Over the years, big names in the history of the sport, such as Conor McGregor, Cris Cyborg, Jon Jones, among other athletes went on a collision course with the top hat and Khabib Nurmagomedov is part of the team. It is true that the Russian star and the leader of the UFC are close, but the former lightweight champion (70 kg) confessed that he already suffered at the hands of the top hat.
In an interview with the UFC’s own YouTube channel, Khabib said he got to know both sides of Dana up close. The Russian admitted that the manager had done a lot for his career, but also revealed that his most recent experience with the leader of the organization was somewhat exhausting and difficult to deal with. The subject that the former lightweight champion refers to is his retirement from MMA and, consequently, the insistence of the businessman in the attempt of his possible return to Ultimate.
After finishing Justin Gaethje at the event held in October 2020 in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Khabib announced his retirement still in the octagon. The reasons were the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a victim of COVID-19, and the promise he made to his mother, to walk away from the struggles to be close to the family. However, Dana ignored The Eagle’s decision and tried to convince the athlete to carry out another fight. Despite the effort, the top hat failed in the mission and announced the permanent removal of the Russian in March. Tough in the fall, Khabib was relieved not to give in to Dana’s wishes.
“It is very difficult to say no to Dana White. I will be very honest, because he is sometimes nice, but there are times when he is not nice. Sometimes he says something. Anyway, it was a very honest and true conversation between two real men. This is what I feel. At the last meeting, he wanted to know what I was going to do and I replied that nothing had changed. In my opinion, the lightweight has to continue. I don’t want to crash the category, ”said The Eagle.
Even away from the octagon, Khabib Nurmagomedov has already informed that he will remain in the sport, either as a coach or as a businessman. The former UFC lightweight champion usually appears in the corner of his friends and teammates. In addition, The Eagle is the president of EFC, his own MMA organization.
At the age of 32, Khabib retired and was considered by the MMA community to be one of the most dominant fighters in the sport’s history. In his career, the Russian fought 29 fights and won all of them. The former UFC lightweight champion’s greatest triumphs were over Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza and Gleison Tibau.
