The UFC does not seem willing to pay the $ 10 million (R $ 56 million) intended by Jon Jones for an eventual fight against Francis Ngannou for the heavyweight belt. The organization already plans a duel with Derrick Lewis as a challenger.
According to Ariel Helwani, reporter and presenter of the channels ESPN, the UFC suggested for June 12 a fight between Ngannou and Lewis. The only drawback is that the champion was not excited to return to the octagons so quickly to defend the title.
Ngannou had his last fight at UFC 260, on March 27, knocking out Stipe Miocic to win the belt. Lewis fought for the last time on February 20.
The duel between the two would be a 2018 UFC 226 rematch, when Lewis defeated Ngannou by unanimous decision of the judges. The defending champion, at the time, had just lost his first title shot, defeated by Miocic himself.
Dispute for the top of the category will be between the Brazilian and Michael Chandler
With Jon Jones, the impasse is in relation to the amount requested by the former light heavyweight champion. He gave up the belt in August 2020 to seek challenges in the top category, but has not yet made his debut. According to him, the issue is financial.
In the past week, Jones has openly criticized the UFC and Dana White and said that, to face Ngannou, he would like a $ 10 million grant. At least, at the moment, Ultimate does not seem willing to meet the requirement.
