Striker Rodrigo Varanda was photographed visiting a futsal court alongside a businessman in the Favela do Pau Queimado, in Tatuapé. The Corinthians holder and the agent were without a mask at the time of registration, a necessary measure to reduce the risks of infection against covid-19.
Faced with the controversy that the attitude generated, Varanda made a new publication, where he tried to justify himself. “I’m receiving a lot of messages, saying that I was breaking the covid procedure, I just took off my mask to post the photo”.
In the message on social networks, the athlete added. “And on the court, it is in my community, where my daughter lives, there is no way for me not to visit the environment,” he added in the image, this time wearing a mask.

This is not the first controversy involving Corinthians player during the pandemic. Other athletes have already been caught breaching safety rules against the disease that has killed more than 330,000 Brazilians. Jô and Otero went to spend their holidays at a resort in early March and also created controversy.
Corinthians gave their players a break this Sunday. The club has yet to comment on what happened.
