Benfica repudiates lack of the volleyball champion trophy in the Azores

Benfica today expressed “surprise and repudiation” for the absence of the national male volleyball champion trophy, which the “reds” won at Fonte do Bastardo’s home, on Terceira Island, in the Azores.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica expresses surprise and repudiation for what happened, which can only be explained by the lack of planning and organization on the part of the body that oversees the sport in Portugal”, can be read in a statement from the ‘Eagles’.

According to the note from the direction of the Lisbon emblem, the trophy will only be accepted “at Casa do Benfica on Terceira island, as a sign of gratitude for all the support received during the last days”.

In Praia da Vitória, the “incarnates”, winners of the first phase, once again prevailed 3-0 against Fonte do Bastardo, who overcame the Lisboners in the series of the first, by 27-25, 25-19 and 26-24 , after the triumphs in the first two games, at home (28-26, 25-15 and 28-26), on March 27, and in the first game in the Azores’ territory (25-19, 25-17 and 25- 20).

It was the ninth champion title, the second in a row, revalidating the 2018/19 scepter, after the 2019/20 competition did not end due to the covid-19 pandemic.
