O Canadian musician, son of Ethiopian immigrants, wants to help survivors of the conflict that started in November and is leaving millions of people homeless, without food and without sanitary conditions. The intention was expressed yesterday in the official accounts.
“My heart is suffering with the people of Ethiopia and with all innocent civilians, from children to older people, who are being murdered. Entire villages are being decimated by fear and destruction,” wrote the musician on the official Instagram account.
“I am going to donate 1 million dollars for 2 million meals that will be included in the United Nations food program. I also want to encourage everyone who can do the same,” he added.
The region of Tigré has been the scene of an armed conflict between militias loyal to the deposed regional government, now called the Liberation Front of the People of Tigré, and the federal government. The conflict has already left half a million people homeless.
