Miss Sri Lanka contest ends in crown stripped from winner

The final of the Miss Sri Lanka contest, which took place last weekend, ended with the winner of the 2021 edition at the hospital. Pushpika De Silva had her crown torn off and wounded by Miss Sri Lanka in 2019 and Miss World in 2020, Caroline Jurie, who was outraged at her award because the new miss is divorced.

The ex-miss took the stage during the coronation of Pushpika, which guarantees her a place in the contest for the title of Miss World, the international competition that seeks the most beautiful woman on the planet, just as it happened with Caroline the previous year. She then took the microphone from the host of the event and said that the contest would have to be invalidated.

“There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place,” said Caroline, looking irritated. Then it goes up to Pushpika, removes the crown from her head and places it on the candidate who had been placed in second place, much to the shock of the public who followed the event.

According to a local newspaper, Pushpika had to be taken to the hospital in Sri Jaiavardenapura-Cota, capital of the country. She said she had wounds due to the violence with which Caroline removed the crown from her head. In addition, people on her team said that Miss was seriously depressed by the situation.

Shortly afterwards, in an interview with the newspaper “News 1st”, Pushpika said she is not divorced, but does not live in the same house as her husband. Annoyed, she asked the organizers for proof of her divorce, and claimed to have taken legal action against the event.

“Living in separate houses and being divorced are completely different things. I have already taken legal action against the injustice and humiliation caused at the event,” he assured the publication.
