With the opening of 47 new beds of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in Belo Horizonte in the last 24 hours, the capital registered a drop in the overall occupancy rate and, for the second day in a row, the percentage remained below 100%. The city has experienced higher levels for eleven days in the past few weeks. This Wednesday (31), the number is 94.7%.
In the Unified Health System (SUS), 22 ICU vacancies were opened and 47 in the private sector. Despite this, the pressure in the supplementary system remains higher, registering 94.9%, compared to 94.5% in the public. The epidemiological bulletin released by the city informs that there are no people waiting for a bed this Wednesday.
“This month alone, 265 ICU Covid beds were opened in the public network. Currently, there are 548 intensive care units, totaling the largest number of ICU beds since the beginning of the pandemic. In March, 408 Covid infirmary beds were opened, reaching 1,185 units ”, informed the city.
The falls, however, do not mean that the collapse in the health system in Belo Horizonte is over. The occupancy rate of wards and ICUs are both at the highest risk level – red. The transmissibility of coronavirus in the city continues with a downward trend, and marks RT 1.08, against RT 1.09 the previous day. However, numbers above RT 1 mean that the pandemic continues to advance.
There are 3,224 deaths caused by Covid-19 in Belo Horizonte and 142,938 confirmed cases of the disease. In the last 24 hours, 22 deaths and 1,719 diagnoses were recorded.
