The Secretary of State for Health of Santa Catarina reported this week the confirmation of the first case of reinfection by coronavirus in Santa Catarina. The case was confirmed laboratory on March 31 by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation of Rio de Janeiro, a reference laboratory for Santa Catarina for the Central Laboratory of Public Health (LACEN / SC).
A suspected case of reinfection is considered to be an individual with two positive results using the RTq-PCR technique in real time for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with an interval equal to or greater than 90 days between the two episodes of respiratory infection, regardless of observed clinical condition.
The 30-year-old patient is a resident of the municipality of Lages – with no travel history – with positive confirmation in September 2020, with a second infection confirmed in February 2021. In the first infection, line B.1.1.28 was identified and in the second to Variant of Concern (VOC) P.1 of SARS-CoV-2, known as the Brazilian variant.
This is considered the first confirmed case of reinfection in the state, since all procedures adopted followed the protocol established by the Ministry of Health (MS).
The director of the Epidemiological Surveillance of Santa Catarina (DIVE / SC), João Augusto Brancher Fuck, reinforces that the preventive care to COVID-19 must be maintained by the entire population of Santa Catarina.
“To reduce coronavirus transmission, precautionary measures must be followed. The use of masks, frequent hand hygiene with water and soap or 70% alcohol gel and social distance are effective measures for our protection ”, says the director.
So far, 35 cases of reinfection have been reported in Santa Catarina, with 21 discarded, 1 confirmed and 13 awaiting results.
