UFGD releases booklet on breast cancer prevention – Dourados Agora

Last month, the World Health Organization issued a warning: breast cancer is currently the cancer with the highest incidence worldwide and the fifth that kills the most. Factors such as population aging, obesity and physical inactivity considerably increase the chances of developing the disease.

The good news is that, in addition to healthy habits that help to prevent, early diagnosis, even in the early stages, collaborates greatly to a favorable prognosis for the patient, even leading to cure in many cases. Therefore, any action to prevent and combat breast cancer is a public health issue and deserves to be highlighted.

Attentive to this scenario, medical students from the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) realized the need to create an extension project with the objective of spreading knowledge about breast cancer and encouraging its prevention. This is the Susan Project: Promotion of women’s health and prevention of breast cancer (SDG 3,4), which was named in honor of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, one of the largest organizations in the fight against cancer breast cancer that even created the international awareness movement called Outubro Rosa.

The material demystifies popular beliefs about cancer, presents a summary of which signs and symptoms characterize the disease, lists the types of treatment available, shows the care that the cancer patient should have during the covid-19 pandemic, and other important informations.
