According to the secretary, a man broke into the health post in the Colégio neighborhood at dawn on Sunday and took, in addition to the vaccine bottles, a computer.

“The break-in was verified by the unit’s security guard and confirmed by the images of the internal circuit, where it is observed that the man arrived at the place around 4 am and remained for about 10 minutes. and will continue with the investigations “, informed the Health Secretariat of Rio in a note.

The Civil Police informed that the occurrence was registered and the agents carry out diligences to identify the perpetrator and to recover the stolen vaccines. “Images from security cameras were collected, the expertise was carried out on the spot and witnesses were heard,” the police said in a statement.

Last month, the Natal police reported that armed suspects took 20 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 from a basic health unit in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte.

Vaccination against Covid-19 in the country has been at a slow pace since the beginning, in January, due to the lack of doses, which has contributed to the worst moment of the pandemic in Brazil.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, 16.5 million people were vaccinated with the first dose, equivalent to 7.8% of the population. The priority group for vaccination alone has almost 78 million people.
