The state of São Paulo ends the week on Saturday (3) with more than 5,000 deaths confirmed by Covid-19. Once again the state broke the weekly casualty record. The total number of victims of the disease is now 76,750.
Last Saturday (27), the week had ended with 4,333 deaths; since Sunday (28) there have been 5,003 deaths. The upward trend has lasted for more than a month in the state of São Paulo.
During the first wave of the pandemic São Paulo never reached 2 thousand confirmed deaths in a single week. The increase in numbers began last month, which was the most lethal of the entire pandemic in the state.
There were 15,159 new victims in March, which on the 23rd had already become the month with the highest number of deaths. The previous monthly record, in July last year, was 8,234 thousand deaths.
In the first week of March, the number was 1,989 killed by Covid-19 in the state. Between the first and the last week of the month, the state recorded a 152% increase in confirmed deaths.
If the state of São Paulo were a country, it would be in 11th place in the world ranking of those with the highest absolute number of deaths from the disease.
From Friday (1) to this Saturday, 7,026 new cases of infection were confirmed. Officially, a total of 2.5 million people have been infected in the state.
