Argentine President Announces Positive Test for Covid-19 After Vaccine – News

Argentine President Alberto Fernández announced this Saturday (3) that he tested positive for covid-19 in an antigen test he did after recording symptoms compatible with the disease. Confirmation of infection occurs more than a month after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.

“At the end of today [sexta-feira], after presenting a fever record of 37.3 and a mild headache, I did an antigen test which tested positive, ”Fernández reported through his Twitter account. He then informed that he is awaiting the result of a PCR exam, which will confirm the disease.

The president, who turned 62 on Friday (2), was isolated in a preventive manner and clarified that he is “well physically”.

“Although I would like to end my birthday without this news, I am also in a good mood,” he said.

Vaccinated President

The Argentine president completed the cycle of two doses of the Sputnik V vaccine from the Russian laboratory Gamaleya – the first received on January 21 and the second on February 11, presidential sources told AFP.

“Although we are waiting for confirmation by the PCR test, I am already isolated, following the protocol in force and following the guidelines of my personal doctor”, added the president.

The antigen test is a quick detection by a nasal or throat swab, but it is less sensitive than the molecular test or PCR.

“I contacted the people I met in the past 48 hours to assess whether they are a close contact so that they can isolate themselves,” said Fernández.

Argentina is facing a second wave of coronavirus with a continuous escalation of infections.

According to official figures, the South American country, with 44 million inhabitants, has more than 2.3 million infections and 56,023 deaths from covid-19.

The president asked the population to be extremely cautious in the face of the disease. “I ask everyone to preserve themselves by following the current recommendations. It is clear that the pandemic has not passed and we must continue taking care of ourselves ”, he recommended.
