Covid-19: Institute responsible for the Russian vaccine guarantees “rapid recovery” if it is confirmed that the Argentine President is infected

The Russian center responsible for the creation of the Sputnik V vaccine regretted this Saturday that the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, vaccinated with this medicine, tested positive for covid-19 and wished him a speedy recovery.

“We are saddened by this. ‘Sputnik V’ is 91.6% effective against infections and 100% effective against serious cases. If the infection is confirmed, vaccination guarantees a quick recovery without serious symptoms,” wrote the Gamaleya Center for Microbiology and Epidemiology of the Russian Ministry of Health on the social network Twitter.

“We want a speedy recovery!” Adds Centro Gamaleya, in the same message, after Fernández announced his possible infection.

The Argentine President, who turned 62 last Friday, had been vaccinated against Covid-19, and confirmed that he tested positive for an antigen test and awaits the result of the PCR test.

“I wanted to say that at the end of today, after having a fever of 37.3 degrees and a slight headache, I did a test, the result of which was positive,” wrote the President also on the social network Twitter, this morning.

“Although I await confirmation by the PCR test, I am already isolated, following the protocol in force and following the instructions of my doctor”, says Fernández, who on January 21 received the first dose of the “Sputnik-V” vaccine and on February 11, he received the second dose of the vaccine, the Argentine Presidency informed EFE.

The same sources specified that the President was positive in a “quick test”, but awaits full confirmation with the PCR, the result of which will be known within “a few hours”.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Argentina has counted more than 2.3 million confirmed cases and about 56 thousand deaths, according to the count of the American university Johns Hopkins.

The country registered a peak of contagions on 21 October last, with 18,326 cases, with the number of infections falling until March, when the current upward curve began.
