Mauricio Vargas, founder of the website “Reclame Aqui”, died on Friday (02) due to complications from Covid-19. The 58-year-old businessman had been hospitalized for more than a week in São Paulo, where he lived. On Thursday (01), Vargas had undergone tracheal intubation and did not resist the disease.

Father of two, he was also a speaker and business consultant. Acting in the study of the relationship between consumption and the new consumer, he received several awards in the business sector.

Vargas was the current president of the company he created 20 years ago. In 2001, after missing a flight for a job interview, the entrepreneur revolutionized by creating the website to gather consumer complaints about products and services in general.

A reference for the reputation of brands in Brazil, “Reclame Aqui” allows customers to register their problems with the most varied companies. Under the control of the holding company Óbvio Brasil, the site offers free services, both for consumers to post their complaints and for companies to respond to them.

Claim Here Award

One of the greatest pride of the entrepreneur was the Reclame Aqui Award, created 10 years ago to reward companies that most respect the consumer. In the 2020 edition, it reached a record of public participation, with 12.2 million popular votes. Registration for the 2021 edition is open on the website. The event is scheduled for the 6th and 7th of December.

Mauricio Vargas, who would turn 59 on the 25th, was one of the 2,922 fatalities of Covid-19 recorded on Friday.
