With 90 deaths in 24 hours, BH beats Covid-19 death record – Horizons

The occupancy of beds in the Intensive Care Unit with patients with Covid-19 fell for the third consecutive day in Belo Horizonte. This Thursday (1st), the indicator reached 92.5%, against 94.7% registered in the previous bulletin. But, on the other hand, the municipality recorded the highest number of deaths, with 90 lives lost in the last 24 hours. The previous record was 59 deaths, on March 26.

This drop in waiting for a place in the ICU, according to the city, is the result of the opening of new beds, which this Thursday reached 1,129. There are 548 in the Unified Health System (SUS) and 581 in private hospitals. Of the total, almost half was opened in March, a period in which the municipality recorded the worst rates of the pandemic so far.

Covid-19’s other two monitoring indicators have also declined, but remain at the highest alert level. According to the epidemiological assistance bulletin, the occupation of wards, for less severe patients, dropped from 82.6% to 81.1%.

The rate of transmission of the coronavirus, a fundamental indicator for assessing the pandemic scenario, reached 1.06, which means that, on average, one hundred infected people transmit the virus to another 106. The index is on the yellow alert, but according to experts, despite successive falls, the ideal is that the RT is below 1.

So far, the capital of Minas Gerais has 144,877 confirmed cases of the disease and Covid-19 has already killed 3,314 people. In the last 24 hours alone, 90 patients lost their lives to the coronavirus. The recovered residents total 132,669, while another 7,045 are under medical supervision.

In all, 273,171 people received the first dose of the vaccine in the city. Of this group, 97,760 were immunized with the second dose.
