Maria Ferreira, 74, is vaccinated against covid by a health professional with a dose of Oxford / AstraZeneca, in a community on the banks of the Rio Negro, near Manaus, Amazonas, on February 9, 2021
A survey by Uol points out that six out of ten doses of vaccines against covid-19 distributed by the Ministry of Health have already been applied. Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) have used data on the pace of vaccination to criticize states and municipalities.
On Wednesday (31), the speed of vaccination by states and municipalities was mentioned by the Mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). However, the data reflects a problem caused by the federal government itself: the lack of doses.
According to health experts and managers heard by Uol, it is necessary to take into account at least three factors that justify the current rate of vaccination.
- logistics: the dose released for distribution is not applied the next day, as there is a way to get to the vaccination post – which is not so simple in some regions of the country;
- registration: some localities have faced technical difficulties to include data on doses applied in the system, in addition to the fact that the vaccine against covid-19 requires a nominal registration, which also contributes to delaying the process;
- distribution: doses are delivered in small and irregular quantities.
According to the director of SBIm (Brazilian Society of Immunizations), Mayra Moura, before reaching the arm of the Brazilian, the dose passes through structures of the federal, state and municipal governments. “It seems like it takes a long time, but in fact it doesn’t,” Mayra told Uol.
According to the director of SBIm, the immunization program against covid-19 is similar to the flu vaccination campaign. The application takes place in the same way, but the relationship between distributing and applying is not highlighted because there is no problem with the quantity of flu vaccine doses.
