France closes schools to curb covid-19

The worsening of the covid-19 outbreak in France led Emmanuel Macron to also worsen the restriction measures in force in the country. The slight and differentiated approach from region to region has proved to be insufficient to reverse the trend and this Wednesday the French head of state announced a series of new measures to curb the contagion.

The confinement now applies to the entire territory, until now it was in effect only in the most problematic departments, but any citizen can leave without problems, between 6 am and 7 pm, up to 10 km from his residence.

Travel between regions is prohibited but only after the Easter weekend.

The big news is the closure of schools for three weeks, a measure that has always been seen by the French government as a last resort. Even so, in much of the territory, the closure coincides with the two weeks of Easter vacation.

The French health system is on the verge of collapse, with more than 5,000 patients in intensive care units. Covid-19 has killed more than 95,000 people in the country.
