The United States has reported 1,055 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, in addition to 66,088 new cases, according to the independent count by the American Johns Hopkins University. The previous day, 593 deaths had been registered.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has accumulated 552,006 deaths and 30,457,315 cases of the disease. The USA is the country with the most deaths due to the new coronavirus and also with the most cases of infection in absolute terms.
US President Joe Biden has estimated that the disease will cause more than 600,000 deaths in the country. For its part, the Institute of Health Metrics and Assessments at the University of Washington, on whose models the projection of the evolution of the pandemic the White House is often based, predicted about 596,000 deaths by the beginning of July.
In the vaccination campaign, about 97.6 million people (29.4% of the population) have already received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 54.6 million (16.4% of the country’s total) being inoculated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Covid-19 pandemic caused at least 2,805,004 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 128.1 million cases of infection, according to a report made by the French agency AFP. The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
